This week Berger Excavating was onsite prepping for various sidewalk, the concrete median located at the centerline of Waukegan Rd. north of Chestnut Ave., and the retaining wall located on the south side of Chestnut Ave.  Berger’s concrete subcontractor was onsite this week installing various concrete sidewalk and the concrete median located at the centerline of Waukegan Rd. north of Chestnut Ave.  The electrical subcontractor was also onsite this week installing street light foundations and the concrete electrical facilities in the roadway.

Next week the asphalt subcontractor is scheduled to begin removal of the existing pavement on Waukegan Rd., Chestnut Ave. and Jefferson Ave.  After completion of the asphalt removal, the asphalt subcontractor is scheduled to begin installation of the asphalt leveling binder to re-profile the roadway.  The landscape subcontractor will also be onsite next week installing the retaining wall on the south side of Chestnut Ave.  Berger Excavating is scheduled to be onsite next week to grade parkways and prep for asphalt work.  During removal and installation of asphalt, traffic will be relocated as necessary to complete work, please observe all signage and be alert.

Traffic will be limited to 1 northbound lane and 1 southbound lane during pavement removal and installation procedures, which will likely cause considerable delays in traffic.

Change in Traffic Pattern Coming Week of October 21st

Starting next week, northbound traffic along Waukegan Road will be limited to two lanes with no designated left turn lane at Chestnut Avenue. The right lane will be a dedicated through lane, the left lane will be a left turn and through lane. The northbound traffic will also be shifted closer to the new concrete curb & gutter. Southbound traffic along Waukegan Road will continue to have the same number of lanes, but will be shifted closer to the new concrete curb & gutter. Chestnut Avenue will also have the east bound left turn lane closed. Pavement striping will be changed to delineate the new lane configurations.  The temporary traffic signals will also be adjusted to accommodate the reduction and shifting of lanes.

Changeable Message Boards will be installed along Waukegan Road to notify drivers of the change in traffic pattern and reduction of turning lanes.

We apologize for the inconvenience these changes will cause and understand some additional traffic delays will be expected. Please understand the Village is committed to ensuring the work is completed as quickly as possible and the full lane designations will be restored as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding and patience during the construction operations.

Work along West Side of Waukegan Road is Nearing End

This past week Berger Excavating continued to excavate and prepare for asphalt driveway installation and concrete curb & gutter, driveways, and sidewalks along the west side of Waukegan Road and the south side of Chestnut Avenue. The asphalt sub-contractor, Peter Baker & Sons, completed installing the asphalt binder course for the remaining asphalt driveways along Waukegan Road and Chestnut Avenue. The electrical sub-contractor, Elmund-Nelson, excavated for and poured concrete pole foundations for street lighting and traffic signals and hand-holes. The concrete sub-contractor, Berquist, performed forming and pouring of concrete curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways at miscellaneous locations throughout the project site.

Next week, the work will transition from the west side of the Waukegan Road to the center of the roadway for the construction of the center line median, traffic signal hand-holes, and other miscellaneous items. Up to this point, the work zone was primarily limited to the east and west sides of the roadway. The transition of the work zone from the outside edges to the center of the roadway will create some additional challenges and require a shift in the traffic pattern.

Once the work within the center of the lanes is completed, the asphalt milling and paving process will begin.
